Happy Friday!!!
Hope you’ve been having a most excellent week :-)
Mine’s been quite nice.
Work was relatively chill, which I appreciated.
Had some lunch-n-learns most of the week, which don’t really sound like much fun, but a small group of us have been watching them together with plenty of banter and side commentary.
That’s made the experience much more palatable than it would have been had we all watched the sessions on our own, in our cubicles.
Training at home is still going well, and I’m still loving the convenience and minimal time commitment.
My efforts to focus on my sleep habits have been strong and I’m definitely noticing a difference in how I feel compared to when I’m less consistent with them.
It’s been ridiculously sunny, but with work (specifically the lunch-n-learns) I haven’t had too much of a chance to get out there and enjoy it.
However, it’s looking like this weekend is going to be a nice one so I’m planning to spend some time laying out by the pool.
I’m still cracking away at War and Peace on Audible (an effort which will take some time).
While I’m only about a third of the way through, I am loving it.
I catch myself listening to some of the chapters with my mouth open at how beautifully and eloquently Tolstoy writes.
It’s been much better than what I recall from reading Anna Karenina.
However, I may revisit that one with the idea that I might have a better appreciation for it (I read it somewhere around 10-15 years ago).
That said, there are plenty of other books on my list to listen to and I have a hard time repeating things like books and movies (with a few exceptions).
This weekend, aside from getting some pool time, I plan to get some sim racing in, walk around the neighborhood, read, write, and grab some beers.
Nothing out of the ordinary whatsoever and I love it.
Whatever you get into this weekend, I hope it fills your cup.
I appreciate you.
Here are this week's most excellent resources for a most excellent life…
Self-compassion makes you a better person. Here’s how to practice it., Sigal Samual
“Let’s dig into why self-compassion is not only an effective intervention for alleviating mental distress — something we desperately need — but also an effective way to become a better person, and how it’s something you yourself can achieve.”
The Brain Is For More Than Thinking, Jamie Hale
“There isn’t a decisive answer on why brains evolved; strong arguments can be made to support different beliefs and theories. Researchers do agree, however, that the brain is busy. It’s the thinking organ, but involved with much more. The brain regulates vital functions, receives sensory signals from the sensory organs, and is heavily involved with movement.”
I’ll leave you with this...
Identifying problems and working to minimize their impact can be a worthy effort.
Does worrying about them ever do any good?
If there's something to do about a problem, do it.
Otherwise, let it go.
Worry offers no additional options.
You don't need to carry such a burden.
You've got this.
